Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) painted this version of the Potato Eaters (De Aardappeleters) in 1885 in Nuenen, the Netherlands. He was inspired by a painting that Jozef Israëls (room 3) made few years earlier of a farmers family having a simple meal.
